Lightroom in King’s Cross has announced a new show, David Bowie: You’re Not Alone, an immersive experience which will aim to provide a journey into the mind and performances of the visionary music genius.

This new multimedia spectacle, written and directed by 59’s Mark Grimmer (Creative Director for the V&A’s David Bowie Is exhibition) and Tom Wexler. You’re Not Alone will showcase some of Bowie’s landmark performances that redefined popular culture, using a mixture of iconic, rarely seen and never-before-exhibited material, selected from thousands of hours of film in the vaults of the David Bowie Archive in New York.

But the show aims to work as an intimate and revealing self-portrait which focuses on his creative process.

Mark Grimmer commented, "It says something about our relationship with artistic heroes that we're drawn to mystery, otherness, the alien... In Bowie's case, this is our construct, not his. Throughout his career, Bowie repeatedly resisted being figured as anything but human. Rather than undermining his mystique, we designed a show to celebrate Bowie as a champion of human creativity - focusing on the message he expressed time and again: that art, in all its forms, is our best hope for understanding what it means to be alive."

The film at Lightroom will be structured in thematic chapters in a looping presentation, giving a unique insight into Bowie's perspective on the subjects most important to him, including theatricality, spirituality, songwriting and the transformative power of creativity.

Fans will be delighted to see such things as the reconstructed set of the Diamond Dogs tour for a little-seen performance, as well as other rare footage, photography, drawings, lyrics, personal notes and audio recordings.

Ten years on from Bowie’s death, this is another sign of his ever-growing legacy and will give fans a chance to fully absorb his life and spirit in the popular Lightroom, which had a recent big hit with David Hockney: Bigger & Closer.

Tickets for David Bowie: You're Not Alone will go on sale on 10 February at 7pm, priced from £25 for adults and £15 for students and concessions. Tickets will be available from 22 April until 28 June, with more tickets being released for summer soon. https://lightroom.uk/
