Colorado has confirmed its first pediatric flu death of the 2026–27 respiratory virus season, an elementary school-aged child who lived outside the Denver metro area. State health officials said Friday, Oct. 16, that they have no record that the child received this season's flu vaccine, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) released no other details, Denver7 reported.
The death comes as Colorado hospitals report more positive flu tests and more flu-related admissions than usual for this point in the fall. Flu season in Colorado typically runs from early October through late May, and officials say activity began rising early this year.
