You've heard of picking your own pumpkins around Halloween, picking your own Christmas trees at Christmas and, in summer, picking your own sunflowers to make the perfect summer spread. But seldom do you hear of the opportunity to pick your own dahlias.
However, one farm shop and cafe in the Vale of Glamorgan - which throughout the year offers the chance to undertake the latter - is launching a brand new event which sees its flower field on the Penllyn Estate filled with dahlias open up to the public to help you get the perfect Instagram picture or beautiful bouquet lovingly picked by you.
From August, Cowbridge's Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen will be teaming up with Rob Evans from nursery and garden centre Pheasant Acre Plants, who has also won 10 consecutive gold medals at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show, for this event, which will see keen flower-lovers among us meandering through 120 varieties of dahlias. Alongside this vast selection of flowers, Forage Farm Shop will also be erecting a flower arch, offering ample opportunity to get the perfect shot for Instagram or just a photographic keepsake for years to come of this delightful day out.
Tickets for the event, which will last from August 2 until October 1, are now available to purchase and cost £6 per car. To pick your own dahlias, it'll cost you £1 per stem. Slots for the 'Pick Your Own Dahlias' event will begin at 10am with the final slot being at 4pm as the site closes at 6pm.
If you're looking to gain even more knowledge about these gorgeous flowers - which are the relatives of sunflowers, daisies, chrysanthemums and zinnias - there will be a 60-minute tour named 'Walk and Talk with Rob Evans'.
Forage Farm explained: "Gain unique insights into the world of dahlias and soak up invaluable tips and tricks from an expert in the field. Tickets are £35 per person, including a 60-minute tour by Rob and a 15-stem bunch of dahlias to take home."
It added: "So whether you're looking to pick your own beautiful bouquet or get that Instagram-perfect picture with friends and family, head to the link in our bio to purchase your tickets."
Once you've indulged in a spot of flower picking, enjoy a bite to eat at Forage Farm's restaurant - have a read of our review of its Sunday roast here. For more information, see here.
