INDEPENDENCE supporters are set to flood the streets of Edinburgh this weekend as All Under One Banner (AUOB) gears up for a rally in the capital.
As part of the rally's theme, the group is calling out the Tories for using the Queen’s death as a means of “pretending that the UK is a country with a common interest, and to stamp down on dissent”.
In a statement, the group said: “Billions of pounds will be wasted on the royal funeral, the coronation of the new King and sustaining the monarchy. Yet the UK is in the middle of a social emergency in which millions will suffer due to being unable to heat their homes, pay their bills and feed their children.”
Set to kick off at 12.30pm sharp on Saturday October 1, the march will go through Johnston Terrace, Lawn Market, High Street, Canon Gate, Horse Wynd and end up by the Scottish Parliament.
The group is calling for maximum attendance for the event and asks for Yes supporters to join them from across Scotland and beyond.
AUOB has also lauded recent bouts of industrial action as a means of fighting poverty pay while also commending the emergence of the Enough is Enough group.
Enough is Enough is a social movement that is demanding radical action from the Government to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and has gained huge popularity on social media.
AUOB said: “The development of the new Enough is Enough coalition to fight the present crisis should be welcomed. The independence movement should be proud to show solidarity with striking workers to make sure that they win. Their victory is our victory! The time is now to strike back!”
The group added: “Scottish independence will play a material role in stopping the vicious attacks against workers, and the politics of racist scapegoating that the Tories are pushing hard. Let us unite in common purpose against the tyranny of Westminster rule. Now is the time for system change.”
