Yankees Star Giancarlo Stanton Sidelined Indefinitely With Hamstring Injury

The Yankees announced star designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is going on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Sunday. New York recalled Oswald Peraza from Triple A ahead of its series finale against the Twins in a corresponding move.

Stanton appeared to suffer the injury on Saturday after he went 1-for-4 at the plate. He was pulled for a pinch runner after hitting a double in the seventh inning. Willie Calhoun will serve as the club’s DH on Sunday.

Stanton has suffered repeated lower-body injuries over his career, including a calf strain in May 2022, a quad strain in May 2021 and a hamstring strain in August 2020. Manager Aaron Boone was asked why he thinks Stanton has been so susceptible to these type of injuries.

“I don’t know,” Boone said Sunday. “Obviously he’s got a awesome build and physique. He works very hard to try and avoid these things, but unfortunately it’s something that’s happened with him.”

Through 13 games this season, the former NL MVP is batting .269 with 14 hits, 11 RBIs and four home runs.
