Xavi reveals ‘priority’ as he addresses Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future amid Chelsea interest

Xavi has refused to rule out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving Barcelona before the end of the transfer window.

The striker has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League this summer, just over six months after he was frozen out of Arsenal’s first-team squad and made the move to Barcelona.

The Athletic report that Chelsea have made a bid for Aubameyang, reportedly of £15m with Marcos Alonso going the other way. It’s suggested that Barcelona would prefer straight crash as they look to ease their financial concerns.

Raphinha, Jules Kounde and Robert Lewandowski are among those to have already joined Barcelona this summer, but registering new players has proved an issue.

Chelsea are extremely keen on Aubameyang, who worked with Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, and personal terms are unlikely to prove an issue should the two clubs reach an agreement.

Discussing the interest in Aubameyang, Xavi admitted plenty is still up in the air as he confirmed the club’s priority is finding a way to register Kounde to enable the centre-back to play.

He said: “The window closes at the end of August. Everything is open and we will have to wait for possible departures or arrivals.

“Auba is our player currently and I definitely count on him, but we have to see the rest of the circumstances.”

Xavi added: “At the moment neither Auba nor Memphis have left. Now the priority is to register Kounde.”
