World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is set to make a groundbreaking move by premiering its first episode of 'Monday Night Raw' on Netflix. The event is scheduled to take place at the Intuit Dome on January 6. This significant development was announced by WWE's Chief Content Officer during a live appearance at Travis Scott's concert at ComplexCon in Las Vegas.
Netflix will be streaming 'Raw' in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, and Latin America starting in January, with plans to expand to more countries as contracts allow. In addition to 'Raw,' Netflix will also carry all of WWE's shows internationally, including major live events like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble.
Furthermore, Travis Scott's new music will be featured as the theme song for 'Monday Night Raw,' adding an exciting element to the show.
The announcement of WWE's partnership with Netflix follows a challenging weekend for the streaming platform. Viewers experienced streaming and buffering issues before and during the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight. Reports from Down Detector indicated that around 85,000 viewers encountered problems with outages or streaming disruptions leading up to the event.
Despite the technical difficulties, Netflix reported a global audience of 60 million viewers for the fight, with a peak of 65 million concurrent streams. The co-main event featuring Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, where Taylor retained her undisputed super lightweight championship, attracted nearly 50 million households. Netflix plans to release additional viewership data, including total viewership numbers, later this week.
Additionally, Netflix will be broadcasting two NFL games on Christmas Day, expanding its sports content offerings.
Overall, the collaboration between WWE and Netflix marks a significant milestone in sports entertainment distribution, providing fans with more access to their favorite wrestling content on a popular streaming platform.
