Wrexham boss makes Notts County claim following Meadow Lane defeat

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has said Notts County will count themselves lucky to only concede one goal in their two previous fixtures as his side came away from Meadow Lane empty handed on Tuesday night.

The Dragons had a number of opportunities in the second half to get back into the contest but were ultimately undone by a brilliant free-kick routine from the Magpies, with Macaulay Langstaff on hand to place home his 15th goal of the season.

Notts currently have the second-best goal difference in the National League this season, conceding just 11 goals so far this season, the joint-third highest after 12 games this campaign.

But speaking after the game, Parkinson highlighted Notts' game against Altrincham at the weekend and likened the chances the Robins had to his sides, explaining that the Magpies should count themselves lucky to have conceded just once in those two games.

"We said at half-time that there is a great opportunity for us because we know how they play," said Parkinson.

"They play with a very high line, and we knew that if the timing of the runs were right, we would get in.

"In fairness, against Altrincham on Saturday they had similar chances, they have five or six similar chances and I think Notts County will look at it over the two games to only concede against Altrincham, they have got away with it a little bit."

In what was a great spectacle at Meadow Lane with over 10,000 in attendance to watch the top of the table clash, Wrexham started poorly and were unable to cope with the speed in which the Magpies started the game.

But the game took on a completely different complexion in the second half, with Parkinson's side creating a number of opportunities for Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer, even having a goal ruled out for offside after the Wrexham number ten placed the ball beyond Sam Slocombe.

And Parkinson bemoaned his side's wastefulness in front of goal but reiterated that his side should have come away from Meadow Lane with a point, whilst explaining if his side had found an equaliser, they would have certainly gone on to take all three points.

"It was a game that had chances at both ends but we have had the most clear-cut opportunities, and on another day, we could have scored three or four goals easily.

"You'd always fancy us to score when a team is giving us that many chances but tonight it just would not go in for us. We knew that Notts would be a decent side, they started quick and had a chance early, but I thought we grew into the half.

"We just didn't produce the clinical finish tonight but that is just the story of the game. I think if we'd have got one in the second half, they looked on their last legs and I was confident we could go again and get another I really was.

"All in all, it is game that we deserved a point from."
