The Arizona Cardinals are one of many teams connected to Ohio State wide receiver prospect Chris Olave. The Cardinals might not have the opportunity to draft him, as they have the 23rd overall pick and he could be long gone.
There is a lot to like about Olave.
Unlike some of the other top receivers in the class where there are questions of fit, that doesn’t apply to Olave.
NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, in a conference call with media members, explained why Olave is connected to so many teams.
“He’s a fun player to study,” he said. “I think the reason why you see him married with so many different teams in all these mock drafts is that he fits. He’s a silky smooth route runner who can do so many different things. He tracks the ball really, really well. He’s incredibly smart.”
He has the skills and showed them on the field. Jeremiah also said his coaches at Ohio State “rave about him” and “love him,” which is always something teams look for — a hard-working, coachable player.
Christian Kirk was that way for the Cardinals. The coaches raved about his work ethic and focus.
While he could get stronger, Olave also finds ways to make plays.
If the Cardinals drafted him, he would be the fourth wideout in the rotation.
He has made plays on special teams in college.
He has length. He has speed.
“I don’t know a team that wouldn’t want to have him, that he wouldn’t fit,” Jeremiah said. “I think that’s why you see him kind of mocked in a lot of different areas.”
