About 4,000 nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston will not walk off the job Wednesday as planned. The Massachusetts Nurses Association postponed its open-ended strike, set for 7 a.m. Oct. 14, after Mass General Brigham delivered what it called its "best and final" contract offer Saturday night, CBS Boston reported. Nurses will now vote on the proposal in person, WBUR reported. No date has been set, but an MNA spokesperson told State House News Service the vote will likely happen in about two weeks.
The postponement lifts this week's deadline for patients with surgeries, cancer infusions, deliveries and specialist visits on the calendar. It does not end the dispute. The hospital says the union must give 10 days' notice before striking, so any new walkout could not begin until at least 10 days after a fresh notice.
