MUMBAI: The player auction of the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League is likely to be held here on February 10, according to a source. Incidentally, the Women's T20 World Cup would begin from February 10 too.
"The WPL player auction was initially supposed to be in the first week of February, but it has n ow been postponed by a few days. It will most likely be on February 10, just before India begin their campaign in the Women's T20 World Cup, on February 11 against Pakistan (at Cape Town)," the source said.
On Wednesday, five companies, with the Adani Group, who bought the Ahmedabad franchise with the highest bid of Rs. 1289 crore, splurged Rs. 4669. 99 crore for WPL. Mumbai Indians (Rs. 912. 99 cro re), Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 901 crore), Delhi Capitals (Rs 810 crore) and Capri Global (Rs 757 crore) were the other top four successful bidders. In the opening season , every team will have a purse of Rs 12 crore to buy the players.
Australian men's team to hold camp in Alur
The Australian men's team will hold a short camp at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur, near Bangalore from February 2-6 ahead of the Border-Gavaskar 4-Test series, which kicks off on February 9. The Aussies aren't playing any warm-up game before the series.
