World No 2 golfer Nelly Korda undergoes emergency surgery after suffering blood clot

World No2 golfer Nelly Korda underwent emergency surgery after suffering a blood clot in her arm on Friday.

Korda revealed the news via a post on her social media pages, after saying that she noticed swelling in her arm following a workout on Friday morning.

The American then had the issue checked by her doctor, who instructed the former world No1 player to go to the emergency room as soon as possible.

In a statement Korda said: “On Friday I was in Ponte Vedra Beach for a photoshoot and commercial appearance.

“After a typical morning workout, my arm started to feel like it was swelling.

“At the advice of my doctor, I went to the emergency room as a precaution. I was diagnosed with a blood clot.”

The world No2 went on to add that she had now returned home where she continues to receive treatment, and revealed she hoped to be back in action ‘soon’.

“I am currently at home getting treatment to eliminate further risks,” she added.

"I will communicate my status as and when there is more information. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy for all our family during this time. I hope to be back soon.”

The 23-year-old has announced herself as one of the greatest golfers on the planet in recent years, having reached the world No1 spot last season.

The American enjoyed a successful year in 2021, as she won her first ever major at the PGA Championship, as well as becoming Olympic champion last August in Tokyo.

With the LPGA Tour currently out in Asia, Korda hasn’t featured on the circuit since early February, where she finished tied-15th at the Drive On Championship.

Whilst it is unknown how long the 23-year-old’s recovery will take, golf fans around the world will be hoping she returns in time for the first major of the year which takes place at the Chevron Championship at the end of this month.
