Numerous world leaders, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, have responded to the IDF's killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on Thursday.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump continues to lambast CBS News following a complaint levied against the broadcaster filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Harris, who spoke at a college campus she was campaigning at in Wisconsin, expressed her support for Israel's killing of the militant leader, saying she hoped that families of Hamas victims could finally find "a sense of relief".
"Today Israel confirmed that Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, is dead, and justice has been served. The United States, Israel, and the entire world are better off as a result. Sinwar was responsible for the killing of thousands of innocent people, including the victims of October 7th and hostages killed in Gaza. He had American blood on his hands," said Harris from the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Harris continued to talk about the ensuing conflict between Israel and Hamas that has left the Gaza Strip devastated, stating that the war "must end such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination."
"It is time for the day after to begin," she continued.
President Joe Biden also expressed relief at the announcement of Sinwar's death, saying Thursday was a "good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world."
In a statement released by the White House, Biden compares the IDF's killing of Sinwar to the 2011 assassination of Osama Bin Laden under President Obama's administration.
"There is now the opportunity for a "day after" in Gaza without Hamas in power, and for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike," Biden stated. "Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to achieving all of those goals. That obstacle no longer exists. But much work remains before us."
European world leaders have also acknowledged and celebrated Sinwar's death. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that his thought were with the victims of Oct. 7, adding that "France demands the release of all hostages still held by Hamas."
Furthermore, German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock noted that Sinwar "brought death to thousands of people and immeasurable suffering to a whole region."
"Hamas must now release all hostages and lay down its weapons, the suffering of the people in Gaza must finally end," she continued.
However, former President Donald Trump has yet to acknowledge Sinwar's death. Instead, the former President has sounded off on the social media platform that he founded, Truth Social, with harsh criticisms of CBS News and their television program, 60 minutes, following accusations of 'significant and intentional news distortion' against the news channel.
"60 MINUTES SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY TAKEN OFF THE AIR - ELECTION INTERFERENCE. CBS SHOULD LOSE ITS LICENSE. THIS IS THE BIGGEST SCANDAL IN BROADCAST HISTORY. Kamala should be investigated and forced off the Campaign, and Joe Biden allowed to take back his rightful place (He got 14 Million Primary Votes, she got none!)" wrote Trump. "THIS WHOLE SORDID AND FRAUDULENT EVENT IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!"
This follows the Center for American Rights' filing of a formal complaint against CBS News with the FCC. The broadcaster drew significant amounts of criticism after seemingly airing two different responses from Vice President Kamala Harris to the same question in a "60 minutes" interview with the Democratic presidential candidate.
CBS has not released an explanation for the distorted clips, Fox News reported.
