DEHRADUN: Premier educational institutions across Uttarakhand held seminars and discussions to mark World Environment Day on June 5. This year, the day is being observed under the theme of “Only One Earth” which focuses on living sustainably in harmony with nature. At Dehradun-based Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation (IISWC), Ritu Khanduri, speaker of the state legislative assembly, highlighted the need to recharge the soil. Chief guest Khanduri said, "People should not move away from farming. Ploughing helps soil and farming creates livelihood as well. Besides, there should be a greater focus on recharging water bodies."
IISWC director Dr M Madhu, in his address, said, “Just like experts in the western ghats, we should also determine which plant species work the best for Uttarakhand. This will help us conserve our degrading forests.”
