Liverpool’s list of transfer targets is ever-changing, with the club’s scouting department keeping an eye across the globe on potential talents.
While they may have signed Darwin Nunez in the summer, he is not the only attacker to be linked with a move to Anfield. In fact, one such forward who has previously been a target for the Reds is in action during the World Cup.
The summer of 2020 saw striker Jonathan David heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. Then at Gent, the young forward was regarded as one of the brightest talents across Europe.

David is likely to be in action for Canada this evening as they take on Croatia in their second group match in Qatar. And given his form this season, he is likely to be of interest to many clubs in January or next summer.
In 2020, David was monitored by Liverpool and part of a three-man shortlist. He was alongside Watford’s Ismaila Sarr and Diogo Jota, then at Wolves.
Liverpool decided to move for Jota and pay Wolves £41million for the versatile forward. David ended up moving to Lille for around £27.5m, and such interest from the Reds’ side has quietened down since then.
However, with David scoring nine goals in 15 appearances so far this season, it has led to him being linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 club. And given Liverpool were known to be admirers in the past, their names are likely to crop up once again this time around.
David recently acknowledged that he would like to play in the Premier League one day in his career. He even stated that he is ready to make a move to a different league, hinting that a transfer could be on the cards in the near future.
Speaking last month to Sky Sports, via Football Daily, David said: "For me I was always watching European football on TV so for me that was the goal, I only wanted to go to Europe.
"I think the next step is always growing, having more ambition, maybe a bigger club. I think every player wants to play for a massive club in their life, I think if I had the chance to do it, I'd do it for sure.
"I think they're two different leagues [Premier League and La Liga], I think I can adapt to both for sure, the experience I've had in France it can help me adapt to some place else a lot faster. I think both leagues suit me."
