Women’s Super League: Laia Aleixandri warns Chelsea that Manchester City are ready for the title

Manchester City defender Laia Aleixandri has warned Chelsea her side are ready to seize the WSL title initiative ahead of this weekend’s top of the table clash.

Chelsea are currently top of the division, looking to claim a fourth title in a row, and have been buoyed by a superb 1-0 win away at defending champions Lyon in the Champions League in midweek.

However, third-place City would climb above the Blues with victory on Sunday, albeit having played a game more.

Gareth Taylor’s side were not fancied as title contenders after losing England internationals Keira Walsh, Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway and Ellen White last summer, but are unbeaten in 13 League games since losing to Chelsea at Kingsmeadow in September.

“I think the team is now very comfortable with the work and all the wins we achieved before,” Aleixandri told the club website. “I think we are in the right way to continue, and we need to win every match.

“This is also key for this team to be strong and together. [We’re] working hard and we know what we have to do together and keep it this way.”
