Women Reservation Bill: UP Chief Minister Yogi's old video about women reservation surfaced; Know what he said...?

New Delhi: The Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has tabled Women Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile an old video of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of his conversation with Zee News is going viral on social media. This video has been shared by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on the social media platform 'X'. Through this video Ramesh has tried to corner BJP and Yogi Adityanath.

This video of CM Yogi dates back when he was an MP and there was Congress government at the Centre. That time Congress had also tried to bring the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. Then this proposed bill also had the support of BJP which had issued a whip to its MPs asking them to be present in the House. However, this bill could not be passed in the Lok Sabha at that time.

In this Zee News video, the then BJP MP Yogi Adityanath is saying on the floor of the House that women reservation cannot be accepted as it is. He said that first the Party should discuss it before discussing it in the Parliament.

In this video of 1 minute and 9 seconds, Yogi is saying that if there is internal democracy in the Party, then the views of the public representatives on the women reservation should also be considered. He further claimed that under the circumstances under which this bill (Women's Reservation) has been brought, 99 percent of the members are against it.

In response to a question, Yogi says that he is demanding a discussion on this Bill in the Party first for a consensus. Yogi asks (BJP MPs?) in the video as to why do you want to carry the sins of Congress on your own head.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh writes with this video, “See this statement of the Chief Minister of UP when he was an MP. Is this the real intention of BJP? Is this the reason why the Women's Reservation Bill remained in cold storage for years?
