A woman who was pushing a young child in a buggy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.
The woman was crossing a road in the Preston village area of North Shields with a buggy and a toddler on foot when she was hit by a blue Ford Focus. The incident occurred on Ancroft Avenue at around 3.20pm on Monday afternoon.
The woman was taken to hospital after suffering serious but non-life threatening leg injuries. The young child and toddler were uninjured.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. Officers are now appealing for anybody who witnessed the collision to come forward.
Inspector Matt Sykes, of Northumbria Police ’s Motor Patrols Department, said: "This is clearly a serious incident that has resulted in a woman sustaining serious injuries. We will continue to offer her and her family any support they need.
"The collision happened in a busy area and we are therefore keen to hear from anybody who believes they saw what happened to get in touch. Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could be crucial to our enquiries."
