A Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak under active federal investigation has grown to 69 confirmed cases, and investigators have not yet identified the food, beverage, or other source responsible for the illnesses. The FDA's outbreak investigations table, updated July 16, 2026, shows the cluster, designated Reference #1387, increased from 51 to 69 cases in a single update period.
The absence of an identified source puts this outbreak in the most dangerous and most uncertain phase of a foodborne illness investigation. Without a named product or confirmed exposure vehicle, public health officials cannot yet issue a targeted consumer warning, recall a specific item, or tell the public what to stop eating. Epidemiological interviews with confirmed cases are actively underway.
