Woman who began her career in her back garden opens her own nail salon

A woman who began her career in a summer house in her back garden has launched her own nail salon.

Sarah Woods opened Woo Nail Salon on Monday, May 16 after wanting her own salon since she was a young girl. The salon is also a training academy for aspiring nail artists and offers manicures, pedicures and toenail reconstruction.

The 29-year-old renovated the salon on Tarbock Road in Huyton herself to get it ready for opening. The process took six months - double the time she expected. She said everything was designed and built specifically for the new business.

Sarah said: “I always knew that I wanted to have my own salon. I just wanted somewhere where people can come and feel comfortable and can leave feeling good about themselves.

“I always knew I wanted to do something for myself.”

The salon could inspire other businesses to move to Huyton and Sarah hopes Woo Nails will breathe new life into the area. She said: “I feel like this is what the area needs.

“It needs something new and exclusive that it hasn’t seen before. Hopefully people realise it’s about what they can bring to the area.”

The nail artist first decided she wanted to begin her own business when working in a tanning salon at 17 years old. She was sometimes left alone in the shop and the experience left her wanting to start a salon of her own.

Sarah studied beauty in college but initially kept nail art as a hobby alongside her 9 to 5 job, painting her own nails and those of family and friends. She was 21 when she decided to pursue her passion further.

She refreshed her skills on a one-day nail course and made an Instagram account. No one else in the area was doing nail art at the time, so Sarah spotted a gap in the market to start her own business.

Sarah continued with her full-time 9-5 job but from 5.15pm to 10pm she started her nail salon in the summer house in her back garden. Now, she has taken the plunge to open her own salon.

She said: “It’s always been frowned upon to do beauty but you need passion and motivation to start a business. I’m an only child and I’ve always had fire inside me and wanted to do my own thing.

“I’m just so excited for what’s to come and it’s amazing to be able to do something I love every day.”

The salon and training courses, which will launch in July, have had a lot of interest already and Sarah is fully booked with clients for the next two months.
