Woman tries on a bracelet at Louis Vuitton. Then the worker forgets to take it off. Should she return?

If a Louis Vuitton worker forgot to take off an expensive bracelet you tried on, what would you do? This is the question that is divided TikTok users in the comments of a recent video.

In the viral clip, which has amassed 123,200 views, TikTok user Whitney (@myzzwhitney) shared her predicament. Amid Louis Vuitton shopping bags, Whitney showed viewers her wrist, which contained a silver bracelet and a golden one spelling ‘Louis Vuitton.’

“So I went to Louis earlier,” she began. “I bought a bracelet, some perfume. I tried on two bracelets. Why did this man not take this one off? What the [expletive]?”

“I am returning this tomorrow,” she said. “This is not gonna be on my name. Like y’all have me on camera. Y’all have my information. [Expletive] no. Like, the man took off the other bracelet that he boxed. How the [expletive] did he not take this off? I didn’t even realize he did not take it off until I got home. Like, it’s going back tomorrow.”

The footage was followed by a screenshot of what appears to be the Louis Vuitton employee thanking her for returning the bracelet.

The video as a whole was captioned with on-screen text that read: “Was a good citizen today!”

We reached out to Whitney via TikTok message and to Louis Vuitton via email.

Whitney’s dilemma sparked debate

In the comments, it became clear that Whitney’s decision led to discourse. On the one hand, there were some who made it clear they’d follow in her footsteps.

“I would call him directly first, then show up,” one wrote.

“Definitely would’ve called them before they called me,” a second agreed. “They won’t have me in the news.”

In response to this commenter, Whitney shared some more context. “After I left I went for happy hour,” she revealed. “He called my phone but it was in my bag. Didn’t realize I missed his call until I got home (didn’t recognize the #). No text or vm. I was STRESSED!!! lol”

In reply to a third commenter, who admitted that they “wouldn’t have been able to sleep the entire night” until they returned it, Whitney added, “Girl!! Sleepless night for sure!!!! I was up at 8am and [expletive] I had to wait 3hrs! Ahaha.”

On the other side, some admitted they wouldn’t have been as honest as Whitney if they were in her situation.

“I would of kept it and blocked him,” a fourth revealed. While a fifth noted, “They would’ve had to come pick it up or offer me something free.”

Similarly, a sixth joked, “I get why you returned it but baby as far as me? I might have to move states.”

What about the store assistant?

Elsewhere, commenters also expressed concern about the store assistant. “People don’t realize something like this makes people lose their job,” a seventh noted.

“Oh my goodness please be discreet so he doesn’t get in trouble,” an eighth begged.

And a ninth shared, “Younger me would’ve kept it and said not my problem but mature adult me definitely would’ve returned it , people can loose their jobs over things like this and the guilt of a good person who was kind to me during the shopping experience would guilt me if they lost their job over it.”

Woman gets taxed on Louis Vuitton Paris airport bag purchase

There seems to be a lot of moral grey when it comes to Louis Vuitton products.

In another TikTok, a user went viral after buying a Louis Vuitton bag at a Paris airport for a fraction of its normal price. “Buying designer overseas is, like, literally thousands of dollars cheaper than buying it in the States,” she said.

However, she ended up being “flagged by the customs people,” with an agent telling her that “only $800 of a purchase is tax-free.”

“Long story short, ended up having to pay an additional 130-ish dollars in taxes that didn’t have nothing to do with the United States,” she complained. While she seems to suggest not declaring purchased items to customers, this isn’t recommended because it is illegal.
