A woman who lost her husband aged 47 is supporting a new cannabis-based trial for brain tumours - so no family has to experience the heartbreak she has. Laura Smallbone’s husband, Peter, 47, passed away on July 8, 2022, after battling a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumour for 15 months.
Peter underwent surgery and chemotherapy - which initially appeared to be working - and the family were able to enjoy summer 2021 and make lots of memories together. However, later that year in 2021, routine scans showed that the tumour was back and Peter had surgery just before Christmas 2021 to remove the tumour.
But, just eight weeks later, in February 2022 the tumour appeared to have grown again and the family were told there were no other treatment options available. Peter died six months later - leaving behind his two young children, now nine, and 11, and his wife, Laura. The cannabis trial opened in February 2023 and Laura is sharing her story to campaign for more treatment options for people diagnosed with brain tumours.
