A woman has found herself in a sticky situation after lying to her husband for 12 years about what was really in her Chinese takeaway order. The foodies who love to share takeaways together don't always morally agree on their preferred orders which they previously found out the hard way.
Back in the early stages of their relationship, the couple ordered a Chinese takeaway and the woman opted for a 1/4 crispy aromatic duck. She initially thought nothing of her choice but soon realised she had upset her partner who used to keep ducks as childhood pets, the Mirror reports.
Not wanting to miss out on her preferred dish, she started lying that she'd ordered pork as her starter and has kept up the false claim ever since. Over a decade on, she has also got all of her family in on the white lie except for the couple's children but she now fears the truth could be brought to light as they are now old enough to 'participate in the family takeaway nights'.
Confessing her conundrum to Mumsnet, the woman clarified she never shares the dish with her partner and only has it for herself. She wrote: "He doesn’t eat the pork/duck so I'm not lying to him about something he consumes, but to avoid the unnecessary hurt I thought it was a harmless white lie at the time.
"This has now been going on for 12 years, my family are involved, as when we order as a group they all keep up the pretence it's pork." The wife admitted she's been struggling to decide what to do and has thought about lying to her children about it as well.
She asked: "Do I keep up the lie, and tell them it’s pork, as if I tell them the truth one of them will blab to their dad, and my whole porky palace of lies will crumble around me. I know I'm unreasonable for letting it get this far, but I can't go back in time."
Other Mumsnet users were left divided by the odd situation as they fled to the comments to share all of their suggestions, some of which were less honest than others. One user suggested: "I'd keep it going and eventually rope the kids into the secret!"
However many others disagreed and said the mum should stop ordering the dish altogether or come clean about her secret. Someone else responded: "I'm sorry but this is just bloody funny! What a tangled web of lies!
"Stop ordering it, only way forward. Or just say they aren't doing the dish anymore and you like the duck!" A second remarked: "Don't get the kids involved. Stop ordering duck."
