A woman allegedly saw MAGA supporters cutting in line at Disneyland to get Mexican food. The hypocrisy has many TikTok commenters fuming.
TikToker The RoseGold Tinker (@therosegoldtinker) posted a clip from a recent trip to Disneyland Park in Anaheim. There, while enjoying Disney’s park and amenities, she spotted multiple women wearing red hats who she said cut the line in front of her and other guests.
Since posting the clip, The RoseGold Tinker’s video has gotten 3 million views. Her caption, “the [expletive] irony,” has seemingly captured the feelings that hundreds of other people had when seeing the clip. But the video has also attracted the attention of conservatives and MAGA supporters.
Does Disney ban MAGA hats from its parks?
Notably, Disney does not have a ban on MAGA hats in its parks. Rumors spread by a satirical website called MouseTrap News perpetuated the idea. But, as a representative said to Syracuse.com: “Disney never banned MAGA hats in its parks and the videos claiming they did are fake.”
Disney does have rules that the guests wear proper attire at all times in the parks. The company “reserve[s] the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that we consider inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests.”
Technically, that means that Disney does reserve the right to remove guests for their attire. But MAGA hats are probably going to stay in the parks.
Why are their MAGA hats ironic?
While a lot of people immediately understood the irony, others didn’t get why it could be anger-inducing.
One commenter pointed out that people who support ICE still eat Mexican food. They also stated that MAGA supporters do think that many Hispanic people in the country are documented or legal immigrants. The difference between undocumented and documented status, they argue, is what changes their perspective.
But, when considering the significant ways in which immigrants contribute to the United States culture, economy, and society at large, many commenters argued back against those points. One viewer stated that “the new law should be if you don’t like immigrants, you don’t get to eat their food.”
In some ways, commenters pointed out that MAGA was adopting a “pick-and-choose” ideology—liking and appropriating a type of food but rejecting a group or race based on other factors. In a world where some aspects of an immigrant’s culture are adopted and others are denied, rejected and even scorned, it can feel disingenuous for a group that adamantly rejects those seeking asylum to only accept certain parts of a culture that are convenient.
References to the Epstein Files and Trump’s actions
In the wake of the release of the Epstein files and numerous other complaints against the Trump administration, commenters generally were not happy with MAGA’s presence at “the most magical place on earth.” References to Trump’s numerous mentions in the Epstein files were among the many comments on The RoseGold Tinker’s video.
Some commenters simply said that it was “pedophile day at Disneyland.” The Epstein Files contained unsubstantiated information that Donald J. Trump, including allegations that he sexually abused a minor. Despite the fact that many of the claims released with the Epstein files are not corroborated—either due to the Department of Justice’s lack of inquiry or in general—the sheer number of times the files referred to Trump proves a possibly deeper connection to Jeffery Epstein, which has led to increased awareness.
“Start calling them pedophiles in public,” another commenter added. While not related to The RoseGold Tinker’s greater point about “MAGAT’s” eating at a Mexican restaurant, it did prove to be a point that many commenters thought the content creator should have made while in line.
