We all have little routines that help us get to sleep - whether it's spritzing some lavender pillow spray on our bedding, using a sleep mask, turning technology off half an hour before you sleep, or just the good old trick of counting sheep. But one woman has gone viral for her unusual McDonald's napkin trick which helps her get to sleep - and it doesn't involve her putting it over her eyes.
No, instead, 19-year-old Taylor puts the napkins between her toes to help her sleep at night, explaining that it helps her to sleep a lot better than she would without them - and people have mixed feelings.
She decided to explain her unusual technique on TikTok, captioning the video: "The McDonald's napkins I weave between my toes so I can sleep at night", and the video has amassed over seven million views.
Taylor explained: "For several months, beginning in about November 2022, I suddenly started feeling the urge to find some sort of pressure I could apply in between my toes every night as I tried to fall asleep.
"For a while, forcing my big toes in between other toes until I fell asleep worked, but after about two months, a small lesion appeared in between one of my toes that seemed to be the result of me pushing too hard with my toes.
"That was when I realised I really needed a better solution."
Her first idea was to use toe separators, which are usually used for helping toenails to dry, but she said 'that didn't work well for me'.
Taylor continued: "One night, I planned on looking for toe socks, but I didn't have time to go out and get any.
"The next night, as a temporary solution, I had the idea to fold up the McDonald's napkins I had on my bedside table and use those between my toes until I could find toe socks.
"After probably two nights of wearing the McDonald's napkins between my toes to sleep at night, I realised just how absurd it was.
"To me, it was actually somewhat hilarious, so I decided to make a video to share it."
People were shocked by the video, but some said they thought it would be a 'pleasant sensation'.
One person said: "I'm not usually shocked...my jaw dropped."
"I wasn't expecting this", added someone else.
However, some people found Taylor's announcement relatable, with another commenting: "Thought I was the only one."
Taylor has revealed that the need to have something between her toes is to do with her mental health, and as a result, has since found a better solution to help her sleep.
However, she does have a stack of McDonald’s napkins as a spare just in case, despite the fact she now sleeps with foot alignment socks which 'seem to be doing the trick'.
