A woman has been taken to hospital following a crash involving two cars near to an iconic Greater Manchester factory. Officers closed off Barton Dock Road, in Trafford Park, for around two hours following a crash near to the Kellogg's site.
Emergency services raced out to the scene at around 4pm today (April 6) following a collision involving a red Citroen DS3 and a grey Vauxhall Corsa. Police, firefighters and paramedics were all called out.
Two casualties were checked over at the scene, including a woman who was taken to hospital by ambulance, while fire crews tackled in blaze in one of the cars. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 4pm this afternoon (Thursday, April 6), firefighters were called to reports of a crash between two cars on Barton Dock Road in Stretford.
"Two fire engines from Stretford and Sale fire stations quickly attended the scene. Firefighters used a hose reel and other specialist equipment to extinguish a fire in one vehicle.
"Two casualties were assessed by fire personnel with one woman taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters worked alongside Greater Manchester Police and the Highways Agency to make the area safe before leaving the scene at around 4:45pm.”
The road closure led to huge delays affecting shoppers leaving the Trafford Centre. Pedestrians were allowed to walk past the scene, including workers at the Kellogg's factory.
Bus services in the area were also diverted. Barton Dock Road was reopened after recovery work took place.
