As the cost of living soars, it's safe to say most of us are feeling the pinch. As a result, many people are looking for ways to save money day-to day, whether it's through using less energy or being more savvy with the weekly shop.
There is one popular app, however, which lets people save money while also reducing food wastage at the same time. While it has been around for years, Too Good To Go is now more important than ever, and has seen a boost in the number of people using it in hope of finding a bargain.
If you've not come across it before, Too Good To Go works by connecting customers to restaurants, supermarkets and cafes in their area that have an unsold surplus of food. By going on the app, you can find a huge range of places near where you live that offer food at cut prices throughout the day. You pay in advance - it normally costs one third of the original price of the items - and collect your 'magic' bag at a certain time, with the exact contents being a surprise until you pick it up. While it partners with big brands such as Starbucks and Greggs, however, Too Good To Go also works with local favourites, which can often serve up some unexpected surprises. One app user recently took to TikTok to show the incredible haul she got from her local bakery, which she claimed was the best anyone had ever had using the service.
TikTok user Georgia was left "crying with laughter" after her £2.67 order landed her an obscene amount of bread and sweet treats, including doughnuts, buns and pastries. In a short clip, which has been viewed more than 220,000 times, she shared her haul of baked goods, which was so large that the bags covered her entire kitchen counter. As she panned over the mountain of bags, she told viewers: "Guys I'm actually crying, this is my Too Good To Go order. I'm not even s***ting you, this was £2.67. She added: "I'm crying with laughter, I'm p**sing myself".
Georgia then went through what she'd got in her order, including two bags of rolls, six loaves of bread, a French stick and a pasty. Unpacking a separate bag of sweet treats, she revealed she had also got two iced doughnuts, two ring sugar doughnuts, a jam doughnut, two iced fingers, a Belgian bun and a maple pecan plait.
"To be honest," she said, "I'd have been happy with just that for £2. This bakery is unbelievable, these are best jam doughnuts I’ve ever had in my entire life." She added: "I think I’ve just had the best Too Good to Go haul that’s ever happened to anyone. I’m going to go and make some of my family very happy people - don’t worry, none of it will be wasted. "But I had to share it with someone."
Viewers were left in stitches by Georgia's hilarious commentary, with many struggling to believe the size and quality of her haul. One wrote: "Great little haul that, glad you shared it out so it wasn't wasted," while another added: "Such a good bag! To think all that would have likely gone in the bin without the app!"
"Hope you got room in the freezer," wrote one user, while another added: "You've hit the jackpot, fair play. Your reaction makes this ten time better. One person also commented: "You would never get that in London."
Others shared their experiences using the app, with one user writing: "We got a bag from Morrisons after lockdown and they gave us about £40 worth of shopping that wasn't going out of date as they didn't realise." However, not everyone got what they wanted, with another writing: "Pahaha when I used this, I got one crusty brownie from Costa for more than it would be to buy fresh."
