A UK woman is accused of attacking a passersby for trying to free a baby seagull she had just captured, according to a report.
Angela Wildman captured and placed a baby seagull in her sports bag, which drew the attention of a passersby. While they attempted to free the bird, they were allegedly "assaulted by the defendant with a long-handled mop and a large carton of milk," according to reporting from the BBC. One person was allegedly struck by both.
When police arrived, Wildman reportedly became aggressive toward arresting officers. According to the BBC, Wildman was charged with three counts of common assault, possessing an offensive weapon in public, disorderly behavior and resisting police.
In court, Wildman's defense lawyer explained his client told him she "feeds birds, takes birds home and looks after wildlife."
"She keeps herself to herself, feeds her birds and cleans her house, does her shopping and comes and goes," the lawyer explained.
The officer opposing Wildman's bail added, "I don't know that this obsession is with wanting to capture wildlife."
The woman was granted bail and plans to contest the charges at a future hearing.
