A woman left paralysed after a chiropractor severed her arteries is back home after eight months of gruelling treatment.
Georgia Southern University graduate Caitlin Jensen, 29, suffered four ruptured arteries which led to heart attacks and strokes after a routine appointment on June 16, 2022 went horribly wrong.
Caitlin, who had a degree in chemistry and biology, had gone to see a doctor in Georgia, US, after complaining of back and neck pain following long hours of study.
However, after the doctor adjusted her neck she soon felt sick and was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
Caitlin was admitted to a trauma centre after suffering a bleed on the brain which caused her to have a stroke.
She was dead for nearly 10 minutes before being revived, according to her GoFundMe page.
During surgery, doctors found four of her arteries had been torn off. They attempted to repair some of the tears and inserted a stent in one of them.
However, Caitlin remained in a critical condition and was moved to an intensive care unit at a hospital in Savannah, Georgia, where she spent the next month.
Her injuries left her with limited body movement after she was left unable to talk, walk, eat and even breathe without assistance.
Her mum Darlene Jensen revealed she would sleep in her daughter's bedroom at the hospital to make sure Caitlin didn't choke in her sleep.
She was moved to Atlanta's Shepherd Centre in September to start physical therapy and was eventually discharged on February 16.
Caitlin was given the all clear to move into her new home - which was helped paid for by kind-hearted contributors.
Her GoFundMe page raised a remarkable $166,301 (£136,000) towards her new home which was specifically adjusted for her needs such as ramps, railings, and shower chairs.
The organiser for the page, Linda Foster, informed well-wishers on March 6, that Caitlin was finally home.
She wrote on the GoFundMe page: "Thank you. Each and everyone one of you. Your generosity of spirit and love is a soothing balm on our raw, broken hearts.
"Your continuous prayers. The cards and letters that you write. The gifts you all purchased.
"The labour and skills that you donated. The materials. The time. The willing hearts. All of it. Thank you."
Mum Darleen revealed she has been at home with her daughter for two weeks who is "healing."
She said: "We’ve been home for two weeks, but one of those was spent mostly in the Memorial Trauma ICU unit, so it really feels like we’ve been home for a week.
"It is a home of healing, with space to put her equipment, and a space that will grow and evolve with her changing needs.
"It is also a space of streamlined function and practicality from a caregiver’s standpoint, all while being beautiful at the same time."
