Woman injured after being hit by van on busy main road

A woman has been hit by a van on a busy main road today.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was hit at the junction of Lord Street and Eastbank Street in Southport, with Merseyside Police confirming that officers were called to the scene at around 10.10am. Officers attended the scene and the woman was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with enquiries.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman told the ECHO: "At around 10.10am this morning we received a report of a collision involving a white van and a pedestrian on Lord Street, Southport, at the junction with Eastbank Street.

"The pedestrian received treatment at the scene for minor injuries. The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries."

Merseyside Police later confirmed that the injured pedestrian was a woman in her 70s.
