Woman in her 90s locked in room by gang of six men in horrifying burglary

Gardai are investigating a case of aggravated burglary in Roscommon after a woman in her mid-90s was held hostage in a room by a group of men.

The woman's two sons were also targeted by the group during the attack in Ballintubber, Co.Roscommon.

One of the sons, a man in his 60s, was attacked but did not need medical attention as the gang made off with a small amount of cash.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí in Castlerea are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred at a business premises in Ballintubber, Co. Roscommon, in the early hours of yesterday morning, Monday, 22nd August 2022.

"The incident occurred at a business premises and one man (mid 60s) was injured during the incident.

"He did not require medical attention and his injuries are non-life threatening. The culprits left the scene with a sum of cash.

"Investigations are ongoing.

"Gardaí are appealing to any persons who was in the vicinity of Ask Park, Ballintubber between 10 p.m. on Sunday night 21st August, and 1am on Monday morning, 22nd August 2022 is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

"Any road users who were in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to Gardaí."

A senior source told the Irish Independent that the elderly lady and her sons were kept hostage in one room of the house while the building was swarmed upon.
