Woman in her 60s dies in crash which left two others seriously injured

A woman in her 60s has died following a crash in Bolton which left two other people seriously injured, police have confirmed. Darwen Road in Bromley Cross was closed for several hours following the horror smash on Thursday morning.

Emergency services, including police officers, paramedics and firefighters, were called to the scene at around 11.50am. Two air ambulances also landed nearby.

In a statement issued this morning (Friday), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said one person tragically died following the crash, but gave no further details. GMP have now confirmed the deceased was a woman in her 60s.

Two other people were left seriously injured and were rushed to hospital from the scene. No arrests have been made.

After the incident, a cordon was put in place on a stretch of the road, which was closed off for hours as investigations were carried out. Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, particularly any who may have dash cam, doorbell or video footage of the crash.

Sgt Phillip Collingwood of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This was an extremely tragic incident in which someone has lost their life and two others have sustained serious injuries. Our thoughts remain with the families affected who are being supported by specialist officers.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing. If you can help, then please contact our Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident 1304 of 30/03/2023. Information can also be reported online at www.gmp.police.uk.

"Alternatively, details can be passed via 101 or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
