Woman in her 50s killed in multi-vehicle pile-up in Rainham

A woman in her 50s has died after her car collided with a lorry and a van in an east London suburb.

A huge emergency response involving ambulance crews, police and firefighters was scrambled to the scene in Rainham around 8.30am on Wednesday.

The crash happened on the A1306 New Road in Wennington, at the busy A-road’s junction with the B1335 Wennington Road.

Responders tried to save driver of the car – a woman aged in her 50s - but she died at the scene.

The drivers of the lorry and the van were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Met Police said the lorry driver was not arrested, and is helping them with their enquiries.

Detectives investigating the crash are urging anyone with information to get in touch.

The force confirmed the woman’s next of kin have been informed of her death, and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
