PUNE: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police on Monday arrested Warje resident Sachin Raju Shinde (30) on the charge of murdering a 23-year-old woman with whom he had an affair owing to differences over some issues.
The woman, a resident of Katraj, was found dead, with her throat slit, in the washroom of a lodge at Balajinagar on Pune-Satara Road.
Senior inspector Jagannath Kalaskar of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police told TOI, "The woman, who was married and mother to a four-year-old son, worked as an 'aaya' at a creche. She had an extra-marital affair with Shinde."
He said, "The two went to the lodge around 6.30pm on Sunday. Around 11am on Monday, the lodge staffers found her motionless in the bathroom, with her throat slit."
"A study of the close circuit television footage showed Shinde reaching the lodge accompanied by the woman. He was also seen leaving the room around 9pm on Sunday. We identified the man and nabbed him from a spot in Bhor taluka," Kalaskar said.
"The two had met about eight months ago and fell in love. Shinde, who works with an event management company, had been asking her to marry him, but she had refused. He killed her following a heated arguments between them on Sunday night," the officer added.
Kalaskar said Shinde had been pestering her for quite some time to marry him. "They had held many meetings in the last few months to discuss marriage. On Sunday, they decided to meet at the lodge on the issue," he said.
"Shinde tried to convince her to leave her husband and marry him, but she was not ready to listen. She was not eager to leave her husband and the issue turned out to be the cause of friction between them. Eventually, that led to her death," he added.
