When it comes to attending weddings as a guest, it can be hard to know what look to go for. You want to look pretty and feel comfortable – all while not offending the bride and groom by taking any attention away from them.
One woman believes she's found the perfect wedding guest dress that will fit any occasion – but it's caused an intense discussion about whether it's white or not.
Lauren Candy, who regularly posts outfit pictures online, recently shared a video showing off "quite possibly the most beautiful wedding guest dress ever".
In the TikTok video, Lauren, from Bristol, is wearing a sage green embellished dress from ASOS. The gorgeous dress is embroidered with green and pink flowers, and has some soft ruffles.
Lauren was likely unaware of the intense discussion that followed in the comment section, not about whether it was a nice dress, but whether it was green or white.
Many people thought the dress was "too close to white" and "inappropriate" for a wedding.
One person commented: "Too close to white. If the light you have on in your room is enough to make it this light it will probably show up white in the pictures/outside."
"If there's a chance that it looks white on camera it’s a no go," commented a second.
Another added: "My rule for weddings is if you have to wonder if it's too close to white… it's too close to white."
"Mamm. That is white. And if it's not white it's wayyyy too close to white," said another.
However, others disagreed, saying the colour was clearly green.
One person commented: "I'm actually concerned about my eyesight now I've read the comments because this dress is so obviously green."
A second agreed, saying: "I genuinely don't understand the people saying it's too close to white because it is very clearly green to me."
"Why is everyone saying it’s close to white? IT'S LITERALLY GREEN!!!" added a third.
In response to the discussion, Lauren returned to TikTok with another video, saying: "Y'all making me doubt my eyesight now, so let's prove it's green.
"This dress seems to be stirring up a fair bit of controversy. So just to prove to the internet that I know what my colours are, this is a white top, and this is the dress. It's clearly green!"
Lauren then put the sage green dress up against a white top, showing a clear difference.
She added: "Personally if someone wore it at my wedding I'd be saying how beautiful they are and can I borrow it.
"But of course, everyone has their own opinions."
