Woman fighting for life after being hit by suspected drug driver

A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a car in Speke.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to Hale Road, at around 11.45pm on Monday, August 22, after reports of a crash. At the scene, at the junction with John Lennon Airport, they found a woman, in her 30s, had been hit by a Ford Focus.

Ambulance crews took the woman to hospital with serious head injuries. Police have this morning confirmed that she remains in a critical condition.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Speke, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving. He has been taken to a police station and remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Paul Evans, from Merseyside police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "We are supporting the woman’s family as our enquiries continue. We are keen to speak to anyone who saw this incident, may have been passing the location at this time and captured anything on dashcam or other devices. Your information could be vital in establishing what happened so let us know.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk. Alternatively DM @MerPolCC quoting reference 22000621301."
