Woman dies after being hit by police car

Police Echo

A woman has died after being hit by a police car on Christmas Eve.

At around 8.10pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Sheil Road to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a police car. Other emergency services attended the scene but the woman in her 20s was confirmed as deceased.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed and her family are being supported by specially trained officers. Formal identification has not yet been made . Road closures were in place while emergency services attended the incident. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have been informed and have attended the scene.

Merseyside police said they are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact (0151) 777 5747, or via @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, with reference 857 of Saturday 24 December.
