Woman baffled after bride pal cuts her out for asking simple question about wedding

Wedding guest lists are difficult at the best of times, and it can cause all sorts of drama when it comes to who is on it – or not.

One woman who was seeking clarity over her friend's wedding guest list was surprisingly unfriended on Facebook, Instagram and blocked on WhatsApp by the bride as the wasn't impressed with the probe.

Explaining the situation on Mumsnet's Relationships forum, the woman she had been under the impression that her eight-year-old daughter was invited, but then the bride had changed her mind, which caused the spat.

She said: "She is getting married next year and in July 2022, her and her fiancé called me and asked if my daughter could be a flower girl at their destination wedding. Of course both me and my daughter (8) were delighted."

She continued: "A few weeks down the line she mentioned in passing in a conversation that it was a 'no children allowed wedding'. And I took this to mean my two-year-old son wouldn't be allowed and I wasn't planning on taking him anyway so I thought nothing of this."

She finally asked her friend about the situation, and the bride became "really defensive and it was during this conversation that I learned that 'no children' meant even my daughter was no longer invited as a flower girl to the wedding and I had totally missed the subtle hint earlier".

The woman then asked why she hadn't been told that her daughter could no longer be a flower girl, but made sure her friend knew she was fine about coming alone, because her husband would need to take care of the kids.

She continued: "A few minutes later I got a phone call from friend and fiancé saying I had really pressed the 'no kids' issue too far and was causing stress. I didn't see it that way and said I was seeking clarity because I hadn't realised the policy had changed.

"She was upset and unfriended me on FB, Instagram and blocked me on WhatsApp.

"I was very hurt, I sent her an email apologising and then I blocked her on everything."

Sympathetic commenters flocked to give their support, with one person saying: "She has treated your daughter appallingly! I would not contact her again personally."

Another said: "Your poor daughter. This woman is no friend."

"You did nothing wrong. She was being very [sic] unreasonable," commented another.
