Authorities in Germany have arrested a 32-year-old woman following a knife attack on a bus en route to a festival in western Germany. The incident, which occurred in Siegen, east of Cologne, left six people injured. Police have confirmed that there is no indication of a political or religious motive behind the attack.
Three of the victims are currently in critical condition, as reported by authorities on Friday evening. The bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers to a local festival when the assault took place around 7:40 p.m.
The injured individuals, aged between 16 and 30, are all from the region. By Saturday morning, three of them had been discharged from the hospital after receiving outpatient treatment. Despite the unsettling event, local officials have decided to proceed with the festival as planned.
This incident comes on the heels of a recent knife attack in Solingen, another city in North Rhine-Westphalia, where a suspected Islamic extremist from Syria allegedly killed three people and injured eight others. In response to the Solingen tragedy, the government coalition is considering measures to strengthen knife laws and streamline deportation procedures.
The woman apprehended in connection with the Siegen stabbing is a German citizen with no immigrant background. Investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack are ongoing as authorities work to ensure the safety and security of the community.
