Police say the truck initially left the scene but returned shortly after. The incident took place around 3.20pm on Thursday, March 24, on Kingsley Road, at the junction with Church Road.

The road was closed for several hours while an investigation took place. Police are now appealing for witnesses.

PC Karl Horner, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident that has resulted in an elderly woman losing her life and our thoughts remain with her family at this difficult time. We immediately launched an investigation and the road was closed for some time while we carried out a detailed investigation to bring the woman's family and loved ones the answers they need.

"We're appealing for anyone who may have any information, may have seen anything or has any dashcam footage, to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 4741 or report it online at gmp.police.uk.
