Woman, 20s, arrested following hit-and-run in Limerick released without charge

A woman in her 20s who was arrested following a serious road traffic collision in Limerick on Thursday has been released without charge.

Garda and Emergency Services rushed to the scene on the R522 between Dromcollogher (Dromcolliher) and Feohanagh near Newcastle West after a cyclist was discovered with serious injuries shortly after 7.15pm.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was treated at the scene and airlifted to Cork University Hospital.

A woman was arrested shortly after by investigating Gardaí in connection with the incident.

A car believed to be involved was seized for forensic examination, and the scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision investigators.

A garda spokesperson said: “A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

The cyclist remains in Cork University Hospital and is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling on the R522 between Dromcollogher and Feohanagh at the time of the incident with camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
