A woman gave birth in the toilets of a Lanarkshire supermarket after staff heard her screaming for help.
Employees at the Wishaw branch of Morrisons on Kirk Road sprung into action after hearing the woman’s pleas on Tuesday.
It is understood a staff member helped deliver the customer’s baby.
The new mum was taken to University Hospital Wishaw by ambulance after the unusual birth that occurred around 5pm.
One shopper told how the staff member had rushed to the expectant mum’s aid and issued a call for them to be rewarded.
Lorraine Jordan said: “I got there once all the excitement had ended but I saw the woman being taken into the ambulance.
“Then a staff member at the cold meat counter told us what had happened.
“It was a member of staff that delivered the baby. I was told she heard someone screaming for help and it was coming from the toilets.
“It would be lovely for the member of staff to be rewarded in some way.”
The Morrisons Wishaw store manager sent his congratulations to the mum and baby and said he was incredibly proud of his team.
Nicky Sutherland, said: “I’m incredibly proud of my team, who acted fast to support a customer who welcomed a little baby into the world in our store on Tuesday afternoon.
“We hope that both mum and baby are doing well and send our full congratulations.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to attend the supermarket on Tuesday and said two patients were transported to hospital.
A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 5.08pm to attend an incident at Morrisons, Kirk Road, Wishaw.
“Two ambulances were sent to the scene and two patients were transported to University Hospital Wishaw.”
