Anonymous bidder pays over $9 million for lunch with Warren Buffett and Steph Curry

An anonymous bidder has paid over $9 million for a private lunch with NBA star Stephen Curry and legendary investor Warren Buffett, reviving a philanthropic tradition that benefits two prominent charities.

The anonymous winner secured the unique opportunity for $9,000,100 in an eBay auction that concluded Thursday night.

The private lunch is scheduled for next month in the 95-year-old investor's hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

Buffett has pledged to match the winning sum, ensuring both his long-supported GLIDE Foundation, a San Francisco homeless charity, and Curry's Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation, established with his wife Ayesha, will benefit.

The Currys expressed their gratitude for the outcome. "We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for this opportunity, which reflects a shared belief that when different generations and institutions come together with purpose, we can create deeper and more lasting impact for the people who need it most," they said in a statement.

This event marks the return of Buffett's annual charity lunch, which he hosted for more than two decades, raising $53 million for GLIDE. The acitions, which began in 2000, consistently saw winning bigs top $1 million starting in 2008, before Buffett discontinued the event in 2022 after a record $19 million big.

A follow-up auction in 2024 raised $1.5 million for a lunch with software titan Marc Benioff, but that version of the event didn't last.

Buffett personally reached out to the Currys earlier this year to invite them to participate.

The investor, who stepped down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway in January after six decades but remains chairman, continues his philanthropic endeavors through such high-profile events.
