New signing Willy Boly was given an early insight into what to expect at Nottingham Forest, before he put pen to paper.
The defender became the Reds’ 19th summer addition when he agreed a two-year deal on deadline day, making the move from Wolverhampton Wanderers. And the switch sees him reunited with former Wolves teammate Morgan Gibbs-White, who joined the club earlier in the window.
Boly says Gibbs-White told him he would “love it” at the City Ground. Seeing Forest’s team spirit, and the backing of the City Ground fans, against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend also convinced the 31-year-old to link up with Steve Cooper’s side.

“I saw the team play, and the spirit of the team. He said ‘you will love it here, because it is a big club, the fans and everybody wants to play in the same direction’,” Boly told the club website, when asked about his relationship with Gibbs-White. “He said, ‘you will love it’, because I am a team player.
“He said, ‘it will be very, very great if you come’. After all that, he said, ‘do you want to come? It’s not like, if you don’t want to come, you have to come’. He said, ‘if you want to come, you will love it’. I said, ‘why not’.
“I’m very excited to have a new adventure with this big club. I’m very impatient to have my first game and first training session with the lads.”
It has been a busy summer on the banks of the Trent. However, Boly says it is not the number of additions which has caught his eye, more the unity shown on the pitch.
“I wasn’t surprised about the signings, because it doesn’t mean anything,” he said. “I was more happy with the spirit in the last game. I watched the game against Tottenham, and the spirit of the team was more important for me.
“I was listening to the fans in the Tottenham game and they were unbelievable. Sometimes, when you struggle in a game, the fans can give you a good lift. The Forest fans did that against Tottenham.”
