William Saliba explains what sets Bukayo Saka apart as Arsenal face contract urgency

Arsenal ace William Saliba has waxed lyrical about his Gunners team-mate Bukayo Saka and explained what traits the England star has that sets him apart from the rest.

Saka is enjoying a sensational season for the league leaders and is the first player in the Premier League to reach a double digit return in both league goals and assists with 12 and 10 respectively. The 21-year-old is constantly making things happen for the Gunners and has caused many opposition full-backs headaches so far this term.

Arsenal currently boast a healthy eight-point advantage over nearest challengers and reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the table. With 10 games left to play, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta knows he'll need Saka at his very best to help end the club's 19-year wait for a league title.

Saliba is clearly confident that Saka can help inspire the Gunners to glory, as the Frenchman lavished his colleague in praise and explained why the winger will operate at the top level for a long while.

"You can say already, he is a very, very good player. Even if he is young, he is already a top, top player,’ the Gunners centre-back told Stadium Astro. "I want and I think he will stay like this because he is a good person and he is humble. He doesn’t have a big head.

"He always works and he is a good guy, he’s always happy. It’s a pleasure to play with him. This club is a family and we have to keep going like that.

"Of course, I didn’t know before the summer that we would be on the top [of the League]. But when you play for Arsenal you have to think about the top because it’s a good club. We are happy to be back on the top but we are not finished."

Saka is thought to be on the verge of signing a mega-money contract extension at the Emirates which, after bonuses, could pocket the Three Lions sensation as much as an eye-watering £300,000 per week.

Arsenal fans are waiting with baited breath for Saliba to do the same, given the 21-year-old's current Gunners deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

If Arsenal do not reach an agreement with Saliba sooner rather than later, expect the rumour mill to go into overdrive regarding an exit and potential suitors for the young defender.

It is not quite time for Gunners fans to panic just yet, given Saliba issued a positive update on his Arsenal future earlier this year.

"I am so happy here,” the France international admitted. "The club is speaking with my agent and me, the only thing I can do is (focus on my football). I am so happy here."
