Former Tottenham defender William Gallas has backed Daniel Levy to stay at the club amid claims he should walk away.
The Spurs chairman has been at the club for more than two decades but in recent weeks there have been calls for him to quit as the Lilywhites struggle on the pitch. Acting head coach Cristian Stellini was sacked on Monday following the embarrassing 6-1 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend, with Levy labelling the lacklustre defeat as “wholly unacceptable”.
"It was devastating to see," Levy said in a statement published on Monday evening. "We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine."

With Ryan Mason now taking over head coach duties with immediate effect, Levy faces a hugely important call in deciding who to appoint as Tottenham's next manager. With the appointments of Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo ultimately failing over the past two years, Levy really doesn't have any room for error.
Gallas, who made 78 appearances during his time at Spurs, believes Levy is the right man to lead the Lilywhites out of the current mess. When asked if he thought it was time for Levy to step aside, the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender told Genting Casino: "No, no, no, no! No way. No way.
"Come on. Listen, Daniel Levy has made good decisions for the club. Nobody can say that he doesn’t love his club or hasn’t made good decisions. Everyone makes mistakes. The most important thing is to accept your mistakes when you make them.
"He has to try to find a good manager. He needs to find a manager that he gets along with – we don’t want to see any more arguments. He has to think a little bit more about the club and not himself.
"As I said, what happened with Antonio Conte, I think Levy took that as a personal attack. He was wrong to take it that way. Antonio Conte said those things because he wanted the club to improve and he was unhappy with the performances of his players.
"Daniel Levy has to stay at the club, but perhaps he should change some aspects of his approach. He doesn’t need to be so confrontational."
