'Will have' - John Terry makes Anthony Gordon prediction after Everton performance

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has labelled Anthony Gordon a 'top player' following his impressive display for Everton against Liverpool.

First handed his first-team chance by Carlo Ancelotti during the 2019/20 season, it was under Rafa Benitez when Gordon began to flourish. Since then the Everton academy graduate has gone from strength to strength and has now established himself as a first-team regular under Frank Lampard.

Speaking after his first game in charge of Everton, Lampard told how he believes Gordon has 'got what it takes' to go a long way. Despite a number of abject performances from the Blues this season, the youngster has continued to receive plenty of praise from Evertonians.

And after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, Lampard's former Chelsea team-mate Terry took to Instagram to praise the youngster, writing: “I love watching this young man. Top player who will have a big career in the game. Gives everything for the shirt every week.”

Speaking after the game at Anfield, Gordon said: “We can't fault our effort [against Liverpool]. It's a tough place to come. It was a good performance for a lot of the game.

“The plan was just to make it difficult for them – to take them out of their comfort zone and hopefully take our chances. I had a couple of chances where I feel could have done better. I'll work on that and definitely improve.

“We have to give our all and fight. We are very aware of where we are. There’s only one thing to do and that is keep going and stick together."
