THE BBC has deleted a map of the fire at the Linwood industrial estate which got the location of the blaze wrong.
While the handy map produced by the broadcaster did manage to correctly locate the British Isles on the globe – and Glasgow’s location in Scotland – the details were lacking.
Instead of correctly locating the fire at the Enva Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Solutions facility, the BBC had their pin on the Paisley Recycling Centre some three miles away.
In fact, the correct location of the fire didn’t even appear on the BBC’s map.
The mistake was noticed by eagle-eyed social media users, who initially quipped about the map needing to include the location of the UK on the globe.
“I am confused. Whereabouts is Linwood in our solar system?” one user on Reddit asked.
“Aye, but where is Linwood in relation to Andromeda? Not clear on your ‘map’,” another joked.
Others pointed out that the BBC’s map was missing Linwood altogether.
“BBC really showing off their research skills. Wrong location,” one user wrote.
Another added: “They've got the location on that map wildly wrong as well.”
The BBC has now replaced the map with another which again correctly locates Glasgow within Scotland, but this time omits to inform readers where in the world the country is.
At least the updated map has the location of the fire right.
