Wigan Warriors score through incredible scorpion kick against Leeds Rhinos

The arrival of Matt Peet as Wigan head coach has seen the Warriors credited with evolving their playing style and playing with more flair.

In round one they scored a kick and chase straight from a scrum and a length of the field effort from an offload on their own try line.

But they've outdone themselves again with a freakish try in the game against Leeds Rhinos - although this was almost certainly not intentional.

The Warriors levelled the game with the Rhinos through Jai Field, but all the talk was surrounding the build-up and Jake Bibby's 'kick'.

Wigan centre Bibby had dropped the ball but, perhaps through instince or more likely through good fortune, he ended up falling and kicking the ball with the back of his heel in a scorpion kick style.

Field instinctively got to the ball first and raced in under the sticks, almost to the amusement of Leeds' players who had virtually stopped playing.

But referee Liam Moore decided to send it upstairs and the footage showed exactly what had happened, meaning the try was awarded.

Most people were quick to call the incident a fluke, and even Bibby himself might be unable to convince people he meant it.

"That's a remarkable piece of skill from Jake Bibby there," one fan said on Twitter.

Another added: "Not having anyone say Jake Bibby didn’t mean that."

And former Wigan and Salford teammate Jackson Hastings added: "What a try assist man," with three laughing face emojis.

Field would score a stunning second try to give Wigan a 12-6 half-time lead.
