Veronica Ramirez, of Laurel, Maryland, has been wondering what happened to her husband, Julian Curo Churata, 47, for three weeks now. He seemed fine when they talked on the phone on 27 September 2026.
But when Curo Churata failed to call on 28 September, Ramirez knew something was wrong—her husband had never missed a daily call since his arrest on 27 June for allegedly being in the country illegally. Curo Churata had been working with a work authorisation permit that expired in 2024.
